Brooke’s Thoughts
It took me a bit to get into this book. I think because of her writing style. I’m not a huge fan of scenery being described. Once I got to the part about the fires, I couldn’t put it down though. Overall I enjoyed the book and gave it 4 stars. I love animals but I don’t think I could ever do what she did.

“Environmental justice cannot be separated from social justice. The two are deeply intertwined.”

Kevin’s Thoughts
I enjoyed the book and rated it 4 stars. I’m not sure I could stay as long as Laura did but would love to work with animals in the jungle! The forest fires would be terrifying and I’m sure have gotten worse since the book was written. The quote below really spoke to me with climate change and environmentalism always taking a back seat to consumerism. Unfortunately, this will be very hard to change with so much drive to keep products cheap and easily accessible.

“When the last tree is cut, when the last animal is hunted, when the last river is polluted, it will be then that man will realise that money cannot be eaten . . .”
